Complete the claim registration form and lodge it with your certified identity document, the police accident report or case number, and your medical records. You can lodge at any customer service centre or through an attorney. Staff at the service centres help you complete the form at no cost. Once lodged, you receive a claim number that you can use to follow the claim in My RAF.
A person injured in a road accident in South Africa caused by the negligent driving of a motor vehicle may claim. Dependants of a person who died may claim for loss of support, and the person who paid for the funeral may claim the funeral costs. Suppliers such as hospitals lodge their own claims. A driver whose negligence alone caused the accident generally cannot claim for their own injuries.
In general a claim must be lodged within three years of the date of the accident. Where neither the owner nor the driver of the vehicle could be identified (a hit-and-run), the period is two years. Different rules can apply to minors and in other special cases, so contact us early if you are unsure.
No. You can lodge a claim yourself and the customer service centres help you at no cost. You may choose to appoint an attorney. If you do, your attorney can submit documents and follow the claim for you through the portal.
You can still claim, but the claim must be lodged within two years. You also need to show that the accident was reported to the police, usually with an affidavit made at the police station soon after the accident.
Yes. If you depended on the person for financial support you may claim for loss of support. The person who paid for the funeral may claim the reasonable funeral costs. You will need the death certificate, proof of the relationship and proof of the deceased's income.
Yes. The Fund serves South African residents and foreign nationals injured on roads in South Africa. Use your passport as your identity document.
Sign in to My RAF to see every claim linked to your account: the current stage, what the Fund is waiting for, queries you need to answer and any offer made. Attorneys see the claims of the clients they represent.
Once you accept an offer, payment is normally scheduled within 30 days. The claim view in My RAF shows the payment status from the finance system, including the scheduled date.
Payments are made by electronic transfer into a verified bank account in the name of the claimant or of the attorney's trust account. The Fund never asks for payment to process a claim.
Instead of a lump sum for future medical treatment, the Fund can issue an undertaking: a written commitment to pay for treatment related to the accident injuries when it is needed. Keep the undertaking and present it to the service provider.
You need a certified copy of your identity document, the completed claim form, the police accident report or case number, medical and hospital records, and proof of the loss such as payslips or invoices. For a death claim also bring the death certificate and proof of dependency.
Download the forms from the document library or collect them at any customer service centre. The forms are free.
Sign in to My RAF and choose Submit documents. Select the claim, the document type and upload the file. The portal checks the claim number against the claims system while you type and gives you a receipt with a reference number at once. Email submissions are being replaced by this service.
The tracking dashboard in My RAF lists every request for a resubmission or clarification with the reason and the due date. Open the request, upload the corrected document and it is filed as a new version against the same submission.
No. The eligibility check is a pre-claim guide. It does not lodge a claim and its result is not a decision by the Fund. It helps you understand whether you may qualify and what to prepare.
A driver whose negligence alone caused the accident generally cannot claim for their own injuries. Passengers in that driver's vehicle and other people who were injured can usually claim.
Open tenders, quotations and requests for information are listed on the tenders page with their documents, briefing sessions and closing dates. Closed and awarded tenders remain listed for transparency.
Register on the National Treasury Central Supplier Database (CSD) and keep your tax and B-BBEE information up to date. Bidders must be registered on the CSD to be appointed.
Award notices are published on each tender page under its documents, together with the name of the successful bidder and the value where it may be disclosed.
Customer service centres and the call centre are open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:00, except public holidays. The portal and the assistant are available at all times.
