About us
Compensation and care for road users
The Road Accident Fund provides compulsory social insurance cover to all users of South African roads, rehabilitates and compensates people injured through the negligent driving of motor vehicles, and promotes road safety.
Our mandate
The Fund was established under the Road Accident Fund Act, 1996, as amended. It serves South African residents and foreign nationals injured on roads within the country, and the families of people who died in road accidents.
Compensation can cover medical costs, loss of earnings or support, funeral costs and, for serious injuries, general damages. Future medical care can be covered through an undertaking instead of a lump sum.
Our head office is in Centurion. We are establishing a customer service centre in every province so that help is close to the people we serve.
